Arizona Hopi and Arizona Navaho : photograph albums, 1901.

Photograph albums, being volumes 11 and 12 of a larger set of photographs taken by A. C. Vroman. These two volumes contain photographs of Adam C. Vroman's portraits and genre studies in Arizona. Volume 11 is entitled " Arizona Gates Party Navaho's," and contains photographs of Navaho Indians, Navaho towns, and excavation sites in Arizona. The photographs (6 1/8 x 8 1/8 in.) are numbered 1100-1199 and each contains a manuscript caption in English. Volume 12 is entitled "Arizona Hopi Pueblos," and contains photographs of Hopi Indians and Moki towns in Arizona. The photographs (6 1/8 x 8 1/8 in.) are numbered 1200-1299 and each contains a manuscript caption in English.

Adam Clark Vroman began to photograph around 1892, the same year he moved to Pasadena, California. As an amateur photographer and bookseller, Vroman traveled to the Southwest, especially New Mexico, to photograph in the American Indian pueblos. Vroman was one of the few photographers of the region who established a friendly relationship with his subjects beyond that of a curious tourist.
